Premio Speciale Ciampi 2023

Sara Jane Ghiotti received the Premio Speciale Ciampi 2023 for Non siamo tutti eroi, her album dedicated to the music and poetry of Piero Ciampi.

Released by AlfaMusic in 2022, the project reimagines Ciampi’s repertoire through original arrangements that bring together jazz writing, chamber music and theatrical interpretation.

Discography and awards

In January 2023 she received the Premio Speciale Ciampi 2023 for Non siamo tutti eroi (AlfaMusic, 2022), her second solo album, on which she is both arranger and vocalist.

Also on AlfaMusic, she released In mancanza d’Aria in May 2018 and NoRiPlay – Session 1 in 2024, an album of jazz standards arranged for quartet.

Concerts and festivals

She has performed at major festivals and theatre programmes, including the Paris 2024 Olympics; La Scala in Città (Milan, 2022 and 2023); VinterJazz 2024 (Copenhagen); St. Mathews Kirke (Copenhagen, Denmark, 2022); the Kakheti Jazz&Wine Festival (Tsindali, Georgia, 2023); Jazz&Image (Rome, 2022); Emilia Romagna Festival (Ravenna, 2022); Bansko Jazz Festival (Bulgaria, 2019); Jerash Festival of Cultures and Arts (Jordan, 2016); and Expo Dubai 2020 (United Arab Emirates, 2021).

She has also performed at Untergrund (Berlin); Pas (Berlin); Crossroads (2023); Teatro Petrella (FC, 2022); Ferrara Jazz Club (Italy, 2026 and 2019); Crossroads Festival (2021); Artusi Jazz Festival (Forlì, 2016), with the Roost Big Band and Fabrizio Bosso, conducted by Roberto Rossi, and again in 2021 with Giacomo Rotatori; Cala Gonone Jazz (Nuoro, Sardinia, 2020); Urbino Plays Jazz (2016); Urbino Plays Jazz Around (2019); JazzIt Fest (2018); and Donna in Jazz (Lucca, 2022 and 2018).

Further appearances include Teatro Rossini in Pesaro; Teatro Titano in San Marino; Charity Caffè (Rome); Ballad Cafè (Rome); Alexander Platz (Rome); Gregory’s (Rome); Spirit de Milan (Milan); Camera Jazz (Bologna); Cantina Bentivoglio (Bologna); Bravo Cafe (Bologna); Durante Festival (Urbino, 2026); and La Calabria Omaggia Piero Ciampi (Sila, 2026).

Collaborations

In 2024 she was part of the contemporary music ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi Ensemble, performing in the Italian premiere of Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians at major Italian festivals and theatres: Festival Letteratura, Palazzo Te (Mantua); Teatro Cavallerizza (Reggio Emilia); Festival RomaEuropa, Teatro Argentina (Rome); and Sagra Musicale Malatestiana, Teatro Galli (Rimini).

In 2018 she performed with Joss Stone in the YouTube series Total World Tour, singing Samba da felicidade, a composition by Sara Jane.

Education

  • Graduated with honours in Jazz Singing from the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro, studying with G. Gualandi and B. Tommaso.
  • Graduated with honours in Jazz Orchestra Arranging and Conducting from the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro, studying with Gianmarco Gualandi.
  • Graduated with honours in Speech and Language Therapy.
